This event will focus on the challenges, barriers and actions by women in surgical training. We have 2 presenters talking about their research in this area.
Miss Kelda Sheridan, ST6 Registrar in Breast and General Surgery, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.
Kelda will present research carried out during her Masters (Medical Education) surrounding trainee recruitment and retention, in particularly women into general surgery and the challenges faced. The reasons for shortages and disparity in representation of women at more senior levels (senior registrar and consultant) in Surgery is apparent despite increasing numbers showing interest in the early years shall be explored.
Miss Laiba Rahman, 4th year MBChB student and intercalated medical education graduate Leeds.
Laiba will be presenting her intercalated research, in which she interviewed surgeons about their education practice. Recommendations for supporting surgeons to develop their education practice will be discussed.
As ever, we will have plenty of time for discussion about implications for clinical education and collective thinking about how clinical educators can create supportive educational environments.
FREE, 1 hour, CPD certificates available
